MangaCast » Girly Girl Manga for the Manly Manga Reader.
I am staring at this story and wonder if that is the case? I’ll probably ask some of my male anime friends this questions.. would they read shoujo manga as the original post said. If then.. what titles interested them?
Shouldn’t there be an equal readership though..or should it appear that female readers are more open to other genres.. while guys aren’t? Although I can’t help but think of JP’s blog entry on watching Ayashi no Ceres… ealier this month.
Is it also true then Men are From Mars, and Women are from Venus then?
Also trying out “WordPress’s Press This feature” and so far.. seems like it is useful….

The reason that there isn’t equal readership is because there is not a split “man/woman” in media, but rather that “man” is taken as a baseline and “woman” is a difference from this. Think about how there are numerous TV channels for women, but only one (Spike) that specifically calls itself TV for men.
True assumption JP, but then again would you know females watch Spike TV and women might not even want to watch those women channels or watch them exclusively? Men does take a baseline in reading manga, because they often don’t deviate from the norm. The survey was an assumption one, based on a subjective question. I found the story interesting, because I happen to know male anime fans… would they accept the difference in reading types of genres or run screaming saying “Noooooo” in the other direction….
Well, you would from the market research 🙂
Ahh contemplating on it from a sociology gender perspective. ^_^
