Yama Onna Kabe Onna

December 6, 2007 Leave a comment

Just finished watching this drama… I was actually very surprised it went to 12 episodes.. it is an okay drama.. with the theme of a big breast woman against a thin chest woman. This was the first drama I can say that I ever heard of Japanese having different dialects. I guess you learn something new every time you watch something. What made me continue to watch this story was because of Ito Misaki and Oikawa Mitsuhiro.

Oh not them as a couple.. but their acting that is.. I haven’t seen Ito Misaki since Maison Ikkoku SP and I wanted to see more of her roles other than Densha Otoko. Her being a strong and determine woman is pretty refreshing.

Now why would I mention Oikawa Mitsuhiro? I honestly don’t know.. somehow his acting and maybe looks appeal.. I’ve seen him in about 3-4 other dramas and so far.. he always seems to be the supporting and never the main. I mean Oyaji, maybe he’s the secondary lead… but somehow his looks and styles seems to be interesting to watch.

Galileo – Impressions of guests stars – Part 2

I saw it.. well this is going to be a short entry.. since I only watched the 7th episode of Galileo.. but this episode was so surprising that my mouth dropped opened. So far there’s no sparks other than the normal between the two leads.. although I know the female is feeling something for the professor. It was very apparent in the boxing gym…

Seeing Fukada Kyoko’s character in this episode was such a direct contrast to the other two dramas I watched her in.. where she acted the ditz. Other than the fact that Galileo is much more serious than the other dramas. I didn’t realized she could pull the money grubbing fortune hunter that well.. in essence she was the villian for this episode.. which could only reflect my shock.

Next episode, the guest star would be Shaku Yumiko, whom I really like in Himitsu no Hanazono. Wonder how her role would be like, would it be really surprising or something else entirely. Also I saw her in a raw episode of Hataraki Man and I didn’t even recognize her, she was a guest in episode 2, and she cut her hair to a pixie cut. So until I saw the previews in Galileo and heard the tone of voice.. did I actually recognize Sahku Yumiko… nice..

Galileo – Impressions of guests stars

December 1, 2007 Leave a comment

This is such a good series…. the episodes are interesting.. on air chemistry is good between the two leads… and many many celebrity guests… well celebrity for me.. since there is a lot of other dramas that they’ve done that I have seen them in. I truly am tempted to move this up the ranks as a series I really like, but I can’t other than labeling it as a current series I really like since I don’t know the conclusion of this series yet.

I decided to write a bit on guest stars that I know and my impressions of their roles.

Katori Shingo – Never thought I’ll see him in a villain role, while I know he likes to stand out and take on different kinds of roles… this was a definite surprise for me to see him in such.

Horikita Maki – I was kinda annoyed by the one dimensional depth of her character- she didn’t have much lines to begin with, but then I believe from seeing her in Nobuto wo Produce and Deru Toko Demasho! I believed I expected more.

There are other guest characters that I have seen before, however I can’t really say my knowledge of them can be anything but just from the one or two times I have seen them in stuff. I do know that I am very excited to see Fukada Kyoko in the next episode..

Reminds me that I really want to finish watching Yama Onna Kabe Onna. Hmm.. On a side note I want to see Orange Days with Shibasaki Kou in it soon…. I can’t help but compare her with that initial role I saw her in… hmm… she’s getting older that’s for sure..

This is the music video/promotional video for Mop Girl’s OP.. I am also watching this drama at this time.. and I happened to think the opening sounded good. So I was pretty surprised to see that Sawajiri Erika singing the theme…… I guess I should have guessed it was her. Well I didn’t researched into this drama as much as I did for Galileo.. but still I figure this drama has its good moments. I am not outright quitting this show as I think I did with Joshi Deka. Ai no Uta

November 21, 2007 2 comments

I was just thinking.. I usually leave dorama reviews to iceblueaya, since we watch some of the same dramas….perhaps we both don’t really share much of the same tastes in dramas. But I do know most of what she speaks about when she speaks about dramas sometimes. She just has a policies of waiting until the entire drama finish airing to watch the entire thing. So we recc each other, or I try to get her to watch the dramas I watched. She would watch the more school drama stuff while I prefer the working dramas.. meaning where the characters are all adults and working in jobs.

Anyhow this review is going to be kinda old since Ai no Uta (Love Song) came out in 2005. It is a ten episode family drama, starring Kanno Miho and Tamaki Koji. I have been a bit more interested in Kanno Miho, since she’s in the new Hataraki Man..which I have previews raws for.. but still is waiting for subs so I can curl up with it.

Back to Ai no Uta, this is a pretty funny, touching and sweet dramas. There are poignent moments where you want to cry and others where you would want to chuckle. It feels like watching Kimi wa Petto all over again.

Kanno Miho’s character is this gloomy girl named Matsuda Yoko – who attempts suicide after rationalizing that her life was a complete waste, after her mother gave birth to her and subsequently neglects her, her entire childhood. Pretty sad stuff.. I wonder if Japan has child service. – She tries to commit suicide, by jumping off a bridge in hopes of drowning and survived. Walking into a small restaurant where Tamaki Koji (Kataoka Yuji) was drinking with his two friends… she faints and is brought to the hospital. Oh one of Tamaki’s friends in this drama is Narimiya Hiroki who is Nobu in Nana 1 and Nana 2.

At the hospital, when she wakes up, she realizes that she can pretend to have amnesia, so that she can forget her past. Because of a desire to help her, Tamaki Koji lets her stay with him and his family. In this drama Tamaki plays a widowed police officer with three kids and a dog. Yokko stays with them and is in the process renamed Ai aka Ai-chan or Ai-san. Ai meaning love in kanji or Chinese.

So to not drag on this post, Ai falls in love with Koji among other things that occur in the drama.. which rounded out the drama making it funny, sad or nostalgic. The ending was kinda a let down, because it is not apparent that Koji and Ai get married or not. You also never got to see what happened with Ai’s abusive mother. Still this drama is really neat because of some moments in the drama, such as the episode where Ai starts to prepare bento boxes for the family.. or when she got her own room among other nice incidents in the drama.

As I continue to watch Japanese dramas, much like Aya Ueto, I find myself seeking to find Shinohara Ryoko’s drama. I started to watch her in Anego, and then I watched her in Unfair, At Home Dad, Women’s Island, Hanayome wa Yakudoshi and Haken no Hinkaku. Read more…

Aya Ueto

January 8, 2007 3 comments

Hmm.. as I go underway in watching as much J-dramas as I can during my break. I find myself really liking her dramas.. I already saw her in Attention Please, while I didn’t like the story as much, I saw her consecutively in Install and My Little Chef. I’ve grown accustom to her face. Lately I watched episodes from Shimokita Sundays and while I haven’t finish watching it. I really want to watch more of it… soon! I really like the comedic plot of the story.. Hope that my friend, will blog it as soon as it would be ever finished.

Anyhow, Aya Ueto is quite muit-talented as well.. a pretty successful singer and super idol as well.. I wonder if there’s a nickname for her fans? I pay attention, but I don’t pay attention…oh well.. I guess what I’m gushing about really is above all this, she’s a year younger than I am.. man is that something.. so young and so talented..!
